WAGO Launches Tool-Free, Lever-Operated Solar Inverter Terminal Block at Solar Power International 2009

Germantown, WI – October 2009 – Developed for solar inverters, WAGO Corporation’s 828 Series Feedthrough Terminal Block is debuting at booth 2673 of Solar Power International 2009. The 828 Series Feedthrough Terminal Block offers several industry-exclusive features to simplify feeding of currents up to 40A (AWG 6) through enclosure walls.

As the only feedthrough terminal block utilizing CAGE CLAMP® Spring Pressure Connection technology, all 828 Series terminations are tool-free and maintenance-free. Unlike conventional screw terminal blocks, 828 Series users simply lift the lever, insert a stripped conductor (AWG 16-6) into the termination port and lower the lever — terminations are 50% faster than other methods. There are no torque specs to follow, no specialty tools required or preventative maintenance plans needed to ensure long-term termination integrity.

According to Cory Thiel, WAGO Interconnect Product Manager, WAGO developed the 828 Series to fulfill a void for solar inverters.

“There was a need within the inverter housing/enclosure to physically segregate sensitive electronics from the field-wired power input portion of the panel,” Thiel stated. “With the 828 Series, installers can access the subpanel and make field connections quickly and intuitively from the lever-operated 828 ‘field side.’ Electronics are protected behind the enclosure from the elements and unauthorized access.”

Rated at 300V/40A, the 828 Series features single-piece construction to simplify the necessary panel opening and eliminate alignment issues during panel assembly. Installation is efficient: insert block through a rectangular panel opening and secure it to the panel via standard locking clip. An exclusive integrated lockout feature accommodates a security seal or similar tagout marker, limiting unauthorized access to external terminations. A WAGO-exclusive panel gasket seal provides a splash-resistant seal to the enclosure for additional protection and reliability.

CAGE CLAMP® terminations ensure terminations are resistant to temperature cycling and corrosion, as well as gas-tight. Additional 828 Series uses include HVAC control panels, lighting controls and generators.
