General Site Use
What can I do on the Thomas Global web site?
You can search for suppliers of industrial products from 28 countries, by product category or by company and limit by location.
How many companies are in the Thomas Global database?
There are 700,000 manufacturers and distributors in the database, but the database is constantly growing.
What countries are covered by Thomas Global?
US, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, Greece, Poland, Hungary, Turkey, Czech Republic, UK, Ireland, India, The Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Japan and China.
In which languages can I access Thomas Global?
You can access Thomas Global in English (US), French, German, Italian, Dutch, Spanish (MEX), Portuguese, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese.
Searching
What kind of searches can I do on Thomas Global?
You can do keyword searches by company name or by product. Users can search worldwide, by region, or by specific country selects. You can also conduct product category searches that are available from the Thomasglobal.com homepage.
Can Boolean characters be used to search?
No, you should not use Boolean commands such as: AND, OR, NOT, +, -, *, or "". When you type more than one search term, such as "air filters", your search will be automatically interpreted as being "air AND filter" and you will see results containing the two terms first. Then you will see results that contain one or the other term.
How can I limit my search by country?
When conducting a search from the homepage, you can select a specific country from the drop down menu. Also, on the search result pages that show a list of companies, you can limit them by country by selecting a specific country from the modify results menu on the left side of the page.
How can I switch to a different language?
If you would like to switch to another language you can do so in two ways:
- Clicking on a new language from the top menu bar will change the interface and default language for the current user session.
- Clicking "Go to my Thomas Global" and select “Edit My Profile/Manage My Email Subscriptions”. For the “What is you language preference” field, use the drop down menu to change your default language.
If I am looking for a foreign company, do I need to switch language?
No. Company names are not translated.
If I cannot type accents or other special characters, can I type my searches without them?
Thomas Global ignores diacritics, i.e. accents, umlauts, tildes, so you can write company names with or without the special characters and still obtain the same results.
Becoming a Thomas Global member
Do I have to pay to become a Member of Thomas Global?
No, access to Thomas Global is FREE. You may, however, choose to sign-up for the “My Thomas Global” feature which will allow you to save your search history, your company contact lists, edit your email subscriptions, and manage your account information.
Will my e-mail be given out?
Thomas Global does not sell its users' e-mail addresses. Only with the user's consent will Thomas Global periodically e-mail its members about enhancements to the site or product information from companies. Please see the Thomas Global policy page for more information click here.
How can I customize Thomas Global?
On the sign-up for My Thomas Global form you are asked to select a default language. The next time you use Thomas Global, you will not need to select your language again.
My Contact List
What is My Contact List?
As you search for suppliers in Thomas Global you can save selected companies to your personal Contact List by clicking "Add to my Contact List" within the company's profile. Then you may print the page for easy reference.
Will I lose My Contact List when I leave the site?
No, your contact list will still be there the next time you log on.
How many companies can I store in My Contact List?
You have the ability to store up to 10 companies in your Contact List. If you already have selected 10 companies, you will need to remove some companies in order to add new ones.
