Die Casting Moulds
Die casting dies and die casting molds are used in pressure die-casting and centrifugal die casting and other casting processes. They are precision made tools and need to be designed as per the casting requirements.
Die casting dies and die casting molds are made from oil hardened steel, carburized steel, tool steel, high chromium steel and other carbon steels. The profile of the components is obtained by using milling machines, ball nose milling machines and by using electro discharge machining. Dies are precision ground and lapped and need to be of a very high quality since thousands of parts would be produced with a die set. Die inserts are used to make internal profiles.
Die casting dies and die casting molds need to be designed after taking factors such as molten metal shrinkage and warpage. A draft angle is provided and this allows the components to be pulled out easily after it cools. Dies and molds can be designed to cast multiple parts in a single mold box. Additional spurs and vents need to be provided to ensure the proper flow of the molten metal. Prototype die casting dies & molds are made to exact drawing requirement but the inserts and other parts may not be heat-treated.
